Timeline

August, 2005: Began family planning

September 2007: Began fertility testing

October 2007: Sarah had 2 ultrasounds and a CT scan.  Large cyst was discovered.  Referred to specialist.

January 2008: Met with specialist.  Laparoscopic surgery schedule.  Contacted social services to start local adoption process and to consider International adoption.

March 2008: Laparoscopic surgery.  Cyst unable to be moved due to diagnosis of Stage 3 (Moderate) endometriosis.  Tubes flushed to determine only 1 is unblocked from disease.

May 2008: Put on waiting list for specialist in Halifax.

June 2008: Began adoption paperwork for International through social services.  Put on hold due to move.

January 2009: International adoption affairs in New Brunswick are transferred to Gentle Path Counseling Services.  We signed over our paperwork and worked to complete it in its entirety.

February 2009: Visited specialist in Halifax.  Diagnosed with Stage 4 (severe) endometriosis as it cannot be removed.  Highly recommended for in vitro fertilization.

March 2009: Finished International Adoption Paperwork!

May 15-16, 2009: Attended International Adoption Seminar.

May 28, 2009: After researching various countries and agencies, we felt confident that Imagine Adoption was the right choice for us.  We had received our information package and had the lawyer notarize our retainer agreement.

June 2009: Sent retainer agreement and $1500 deposit to Imagine Adoption.  We work to gather reference letters, marriage & birth certificates, fingerprints, blood work, and medical reports.

June 19, 2009: First meeting with social worker.

June 25, 2009: Ben’s individual meeting with social worker.

July 3, 2009: Sarah’s individual meeting with social worker.  Receive travel guide about Ethiopia from agency.  Heard rumors about agency putting a hold on adoptions from Ethiopia.  Contacted Imagine case worker and were assured everything was okay.

July 13, 2009: Meeting with lawyer to notarize more documents for Ethiopia.  Final visit with social worker as she came to see our home!  Later received word that Imagine Adoption is filing for bankruptcy.

July 20, 2009: Received a phone call about considering a private adoption.

July 23, 2009: Met birth mom and her mother.

July 28, 2009: Filed BDO claim forms for Imagine bankruptcy situation.

February 2, 2010: Experienced the birth of our first born son. Sarah had the privilege of being in the birth room due to the kindness of his birth mom.

September 12, 2012: Experienced failed adoption of our son’s half sister. Sarah was in the birth room again.
