5 weeks in Pictures…what a Journey!

I realize I haven’t been the best at blogging these past 5 weeks, which really isn’t fair to those of you who aren’t on facebook!  I will say that the birth day of James was INCREDIBLE.  He was born, February 2, 2010, at 9:48 AM weighing 6 lbs 10 ounces.  I will be writing more details about the day in a letter to James to go with his other letters.  The day he was born, Wendy had some family members there and of course, so did we. Our families combined along with a mutual friend made for 13 people sitting together in the waiting room. What I thought might be an awkward situation actually ended up being an amazing experience. It was like we all knew each other. God totally intervened and made the day more beautiful than I could have imagined. In fact, the love He gave Ben and I for Wendy immediately spilled over to her family, and we feel so blessed to have more people to love little James. The 30 day waiting period is over, the paperwork is signed, and now we’re just waiting for our home study to be finished so that the paperwork can go before a judge and James can officially become a “Canney.” We’ll keep you posted on the progress in the coming weeks. I will be writing a more reflective entry in the coming week now that I am more settled into my new “normal” and also have plans to update this weekly. As mentioned, we still have a home study to complete along with legal fees.  We also have some fun stuff ahead that I requested not take place until after the 30 days: baby showers! Here is a summary of our month with James!

Cuddling with James

After witnessing the birth of my son, the nurses enabled me to have some bonding time with him! I will be forever grateful that Wendy allowed me the privilege of being with her in the delivery room.

Daddy holds James Benjamin for the 1st time and thinks about father son activities for the future! The name "James" is after Ben's father, and of course, "Benjamin" is Ben's full name.

Our precious James Benjamin the day he was born.

We spent a lot of time with Wendy (the birth mom) while in the hospital and allowed her to hold the precious gift that she chose to entrust with us.

All set to leave the hospital and go home! For whatever reason this picture won't show up online, but if you click on the question mark you'll see it!

Look at his little legs!! 9 days old

Quality time with daddy on the couch

I was so excited when our friends Laura & Kevin Myers who also adopted a few years ago sent us some small clothes that belonged to their son for James to wear!

A photo from James' 1st photo shoot. 3 weeks old! More pictures to be uploaded in the near future!

Wendy came to visit and looks great! We picked up where we "left off" with our friendship & family connection.

Love it when he is all bundled up for the outdoors!

SOO excited for the blog update!! I know you have been busy with your wonderful new life. I think our social worker said it the best:

“The two of you have learned to dance on your own, then you came together..and you danced together..now there is a third person in the mix and you have to learn to dance all over again..when you get it..it will be just perfect”

Love ya…glad you are given this amazing opportunity.
